The trip most first-time visitors should take. Day one is the river and the old city; day two is Sarnath at an easy pace, back in time for an evening train.

Day by day

Day 1

Arrival, ghats and the evening aarti

Pickup from the station or airport, hotel check-in and a rest. Late afternoon walk through the old city lanes, then a boat seat for the Ganga aarti at Dashashwamedh.

Day 2

Sunrise boat, Vishwanath darshan, Sarnath

On the water before first light, then darshan at Kashi Vishwanath. After breakfast, drive out to Sarnath for the Dhamek Stupa and the museum. Drop at the station in the evening.
